We made an appointment and met with Alena in her office to discuss future travel plans. We LOVED the fact that not only is she available online, but in person too!
She sat with us for a few hours helping plan all details.
Alena uses her extensive knowledge of traveling and all that encompasses making a vacation wonderful and seamless and applies it to every trip she sends us on. I can’t recommend her enough.
-Aaren

We worked with Alena for our first trip to Disney recently, and I truly don’t think we would have ever done it without her help! Planning for Disney can feel quite overwhelming if you’ve never been, but she helped us each step of the way. All of her recommendations from the hotel to restaurants were spot on! Highly recommend her for your Disney trip planning.
-Lara B
Thank you for helping us plan an Alaska trip of a lifetime! We had an amazing trip, that I will be recommending to everyone I know.
The flightseeing with glacier landing was unbelievable, and we hit the 2nd river run of sockeye salmon perfectly!! Almost took the guide longer to fillet the fish that it did to catch them.
-A. Phillips
Alena helped us book our Honeymoon to Punta Cana. She was super helpful looking at different options for us, and once we decided where we wanted to go - everything she set up went without a hitch! I would recommend Alena to anyone I know, and will certainly be using her again!

We had the best time in Chicago, thanks to Alena.
I had no idea where to book or what areas were good and once we communicated our budget preference (a bit of a moving target when we first started looking at options) she was able to find us a place that met our needs. So glad we were able to get away.
-J. Charters
We had our wedding in Mexico, at Dreams Jade,. Alena helped us pick our resort and we had a fantastic time.

Highly recommend!! I have used Alena for booking my Disney trips twice now and would do it again! She is always helpful in determining best plan for where to stay and navigating park passes. Very quick to respond to emails and great communication. One time she was traveling as well and even when internet service was unreliable for Alena she was still prompt and kept me informed on our trip planning. One of these days I might get bold enough to travel outside of Disney (lol) and I know Alena would be just as fantastic planning that as well.
-D. Hughes
Due to a hurricane, I had to make some last minute adjustments to my trip. Alena was so responsive! She got on the phone with the resort right away while texting me the entire time to verify my preferences and confirm the changes. Within a matter of minutes, everything was settled and I could enjoy my vacation stress free!
-Denise

My husband and I worked with Alena for our first trip to Europe (Spain, France, and Germany) and she was absolutely incredible! Everything she booked was great and she worked hard to stay within our budget while also booking our stays in places that were beautiful, clean, and in the middle of everything. She was extremely responsive any time we had questions, and when we had an issue getting overcharged at one of the hotels due to a hotel systems issue, she was diligent in getting it resolved. We truly could not recommend Alena any more and look forward to working with her again!
-Claire Wilson

She not only booked us a beautiful resort, she took all the stress out of it as well. We will use her anytime we go anywhere from now on. Also, we refer her to basically everyone we know! She’s the best of the best!! ![]()
-Adrianna
Anyone not using a travel agent is crazy. They get to handle all the hassles, etc, and I just get to enjoy my vacation. We had multiple flight changes courtesy of the airline. Alena with Vincent Vacations- Travel packages, tips & more ! reviewed them and saw that I wouldn't have time to clear customs. She called the airline and after several hours on hold was able to change my flights. The resort she recommend was FANTASTIC. Had a tremendous vacation. Yes, I know I'm her mom but what more reason to make her 'client' happy than making mom happy?![]()
-Michele P
Alena did a fabulous job helping us book our vacation to Disney . Made everything super simple for us, all we had to do was show up! We will definitely book more vacations with her in the future.

Got Dreams? Alena makes them come true!! My dream since grade school to see the Northern lights became a reality due to her fabulous planning and trip package! Every thing was beyond perfect! We saw the lights, we went ice fishing! We visited Chena Hot Springs, soaking in the springs at night while our hair froze! An amazing experience! Moose greeted us on the highway! And we visited Iditarod award winning dog mushers/trainers for an experience that exceeded all expectations, taking rides in their racing sleds! Every need and care Alena addresses! I simply can’t recommend her expertise, her genuine care, highly enough! ![]()
-Joan S
Booking with you was amazing! Was so easy to do! It was our first trip to Disney and you let us know when we had to book everything and what was the best things to do while there! Hopefully we can book another trip sometime soon!
-Amber E
I will say booking with you was awesome, but the fact that you took time to figure some issues out, that I did to myself, during the snow storm was excellent customer service especially when neither of us had power!

Sailing Norwegian Cruise Line from Galveston with my family surprised me in the best ways. Honest in...
Cruising with family always comes with expectations. Some good, some… cautiously optimistic. I’ve cruised before, I book cruises for a living, and still, this Norwegian Cruise Line family cruise managed to surprise me in all the right ways, and a few unexpected ones too.
We sailed roundtrip from Galveston on a 7-night Norwegian Cruise Line cruise, visiting Cozumel, Roatán, and NCL’s private destination, Harvest Caye. On paper, it checked all the boxes for a great family itinerary. In reality, it delivered flexibility, fun, and a level of ease that made the entire trip feel refreshingly manageable.
If you’ve ever cruised with kids, you know the pool deck can make or break the experience. I fully expected noise, crowds, and the constant hunt for a chair, while this was a obstacle occasionally at the main pool deck, having the two ship side pool options on deck eight helped spread out the crowds of pool goers. We also did our due dillignece and tried every dry slide, wet slide, and the go-kart experience onboard, and they were a huge hit. Norwegian Cruise Line truly delivers when it comes to onboard activities for families - the mini golf and arcade are a do not miss as well.
Food is always a big part of any cruise, especially when traveling with family. We dined in five specialty dining restaurants onboard, and every experience was excellent. The quality, service, and atmosphere easily rivaled restaurants on land, making specialty dining on Norwegian Cruise Line well worth it.
Now for the honest part.
The kids menu onboard was a disappointment. Surprisingly, there were no chicken tenders anywhere on the ship, which is a big miss for families with picky eaters. It’s something I hope NCL improves in the future. That said, the buffet completely redeemed the dining experience. It was easily the best cruise ship buffet I’ve ever had. Fresh options, great variety, and something for everyone made it a reliable go-to throughout the week or for a frequent second dinner !

One of the highlights of this Norwegian Cruise Line itinerary from Galveston was how smooth the port days felt.
Cozumel and Roatán offered plenty of excursions and opportunities to explore without feeling rushed. Harvest Caye, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in Belize, was exactly what a private port should be. Clean, organized, beautiful, and incredibly family-friendly ( but keep in mind none of the onshore F&B are included )
The biggest surprise of this trip wasn’t a single feature or amenity. It was the peace of mind. This is where cruising with Norwegian Cruise Line really shines, especially for families. The flexibility, thoughtful design, and range of experiences allow everyone to enjoy the vacation in their own way.
Final Thoughts on Cruising Norwegian Cruise Line with Kids
Would I cruise Norwegian Cruise Line with my family again? Absolutely.
This sailing reinforced why I often recommend NCL cruises for families ( especially multi generational) who want an easy, fun, and flexible vacation. While there were a few misses, the overall experience delivered where it mattered most.
From pool deck mornings to port day adventures, great specialty dining to an outstanding buffet, this trip reminded me why cruising continues to be one of the best ways to travel as a family.

If you’ve ever wondered what an Anchorage-based itinerary can deliver beyond the classic cruise route, consider this your invitation to explore an Alaska that feels wonderfully immersive, uncrowded, and startlingly beautiful.

Anchorage in early fall feels like the moment a theater curtain lifts. The air sharpens, the mountains glow with autumn colors, and the whole landscape seems to hum with expectation. Our group gathered here before setting off, and right away the benefit of a small group became clear. Conversations flowed, questions were answered, and every stop felt curated rather than hurried.
Our first stretch of road took us along the Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic drives in Alaska. The tides sweep in like they’re racing the mountains, and the light shifts in theatrical layers. It’s the kind of place that defies quick glances; you end up staring out the window like you’re trying to memorize the scenery.
Alyeska Resort: Alpine Calm and Sky-High ViewsWe made our way to Alyeska Resort, tucked below the Chugach Mountains. A glide up the famous tram felt like rising into an aerial cathedral: sweeping ridgelines, crisp air, and the quiet sense that Alaska’s wilderness is gently towering over you. It’s equal parts energizing and grounding.
Seward: Harbor + Whittier too = Charm and Glacier MajestyFrom there, we headed to Seward, a harbor town that always feels ready for its close-up. It was our jumping-off point for not one but two fjord and glacier cruises, each one a highlight reel of Alaska’s coastal magic. Think towering cliffs, floating ice, seals draped on rocks like nap-loving royalty, and glaciers that speak in thunderous cracks and deep rumbles. If you’re searching for unforgettable Alaska excursions, glacier cruising in Whittier and Seward should be at the top of your list.
Another standout experience was riding the Alaska Railroad with my fellow advisors. The windows framed one breathtaking stretch of wilderness after another: rivers tracing the valley floors, mountains closing in around us, and endless forests shifting into fall’s golden palette. Trains in Alaska don’t just move you; they host you.

We also visited a Seavey's Ididaride Facility, where the pups entertained us with their enthusiasm and impressive training routines. Learning how they’re prepared for winter races added a layer of cultural depth to the trip. They’re athletes, comedians, and charmers all at once - DO NOT MISS this opportunity while in the state!
Because Greatland Adventures loves showcasing local flavor, our days were threaded with fantastic meals. Cozy cafés, fresh seafood, and dishes that tasted like they were crafted with the landscape in mind. Good food always anchors a good trip, and these meals made each evening feel celebratory.
The Magic of Small-Group TravelWhat truly tied everything together was the small-group experience. With just a handful of travelers, we moved easily, asked questions freely, and enjoyed moments of unscripted wonder. Instead of feeling like tourists on a timeline, we felt like travelers being personally guided through Alaska’s highlights.
Alaska stays with you. And this time, it felt like it wanted to.

There’s something magical about the mountains of British Columbia.

On my recent trip to Whistler, I was reminded again why this destination tops so many travelers’ lists—it’s the perfect blend of rugged beauty, outdoor adventure, and that little touch of luxury that makes you feel like you’re truly on vacation.
One of the best parts about a trip to Whistler is that the journey there is almost as spectacular as the destination itself. From Vancouver International Airport, you’ll head north along the famous Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99)—a route known for jaw-dropping scenery, with coastal fjords, mountain peaks, and waterfalls lining the way.
Here are the top ways to get there...
Private Transfer or Car Service – If you want a seamless, door-to-door experience, arranging a private transfer is the most comfortable option. You’ll be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the views.
Rental Car – Perfect if you want the flexibility to stop all over!
Shuttle Bus – Several companies run frequent shuttle services directly from YVR to Whistler Village. This is a stress-free and budget-friendly choice.

If you’ve ever dreamed of staying in a storybook mountain lodge, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is it. Nestled at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, the property feels both grand and cozy at the same time. From the sweeping mountain views to the warm hospitality, it was the perfect home base for exploring Whistler and beyond.

One of the highlights of this trip was venturing beyond the village to explore some of British Columbia’s natural wonders:

Squamish – Known as the 'Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada,' this small town is big on charm and even bigger on views. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and take it in!
Shannon Falls – Just south of Squamish, Shannon Falls cascades dramatically down the cliffs and is one of the tallest waterfalls in the area. A short, scenic walk rewards you with breathtaking views.
Brandywine Falls – Another gem, this 70-meter waterfall is tucked into a provincial park and feels like a hidden secret even though it’s an easy stop off the Sea-to-Sky Highway. ( also recommend the sea to sky gondola for great views )
If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Virgin River, you’ll recognize Jack’s Bar—or at least the

filming location that brings it to life.
Visiting the bar in person was a fun nod to the show and
added a unique twist to my itinerary and a great moment to sample some local beer!

No trip to Whistler is complete without experiencing the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Spanning more than 2 miles between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, it holds world records for both the longest and highest lift of its kind. Floating above the treetops with glaciers, alpine lakes, and endless peaks stretching out around you ( queue the bucketlist moment )
Whistler, with its mix of natural wonders, luxury accommodations, and unique ex
periences, is the kind of destination that leaves you already planning your next visit before you’ve even left. Whether you’re chasing adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, it delivers in every season.

When most people picture a cruise, they think of massive ocean liners with waterslides, Broadway-style shows, and endless buffets. But river cruises? They’re a whole different world—one that’s quietly becoming the favorite way to travel for those who want comfort, culture, and connection.

I’ve planned and sailed on plenty of river cruise journeys, and the thing I hear so often is: “I had no idea it was this great' So let’s spill the secrets.
Here are five surprising facts about river cruising that just might change the way you see river cruising.
Think small and cramped? Think again. Modern river ships boast stylish cabins with floor-to-ceiling windows—and many even have French balconies. It’s more “floating boutique hotel” than “tiny cabin.”

No nickel-and-diming here.
Wine with dinner? Included.
3. You See More, With Less Stress
Forget packing and unpacking in every new city. On a river cruise, your ship is your hotel. You float effortlessly from one incredible destination to the next—no train stations, no long transfers, no hassle.
That old stereotype? Outdated.
Today’s river cruises offer bike tours, hiking, kayaking, wine tastings, and even family-friendly itineraries.
Whether you’re traveling with your partner, your friends, or your kids, there’s a cruise style that fits.
Ocean liners can’t sail into the heart of Europe, Southeast Asia, or Egypt—but river cruises glide right in. Picture sipping wine along Portugal’s Douro, drifting past temples on the Mekong, or exploring ancient history on the Nile. It’s travel on a whole new level.
The Bottom Line
River cruises are culture without being cramped, sightseeing without the added stress, and luxury without the fuss.
If you’ve been curious, take this as your sign—it might just be the most effortless (and unforgettable) way you’ll ever travel.
Traveling solo is one of life’s most freeing experiences. You set your own pace, choose your own adv...
Traveling solo is one of life’s most freeing experiences. You set your own pace, choose your own adventures, and never have to compromise on your dream itinerary. But solo travel can also come with its challenges—navigating unfamiliar places alone, managing all the logistics, and sometimes feeling a little isolated along the way.
Effortless LogisticsOn a river cruise, the itinerary, transportation, and accommodations are all wrapped into one seamless package. You can unpack once, yet wake up in a new city or country each day—no need to juggle trains, buses, or hotel check-ins on your own.
While you’ll have plenty of time for solo exploring, a river cruise naturally offers a welcoming, social environment. You’ll dine with fellow travelers, join group excursions, and meet like-minded adventurers from around the world—perfect for building friendships without the pressure of constantly seeking company.

River cruises operate in well-traveled, secure regions and have crew members on hand around the clock. You’ll always have a home base to return to, so you can explore confidently, even in unfamiliar destinations.
Unlike massive ocean liners, river ships carry fewer guests, making excursions more intimate and tailored. You’ll enjoy guided tours, hands-on cultural experiences, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and interact with locals—without feeling lost in the crowd.

You can join the planned activities or simply wander the ports at your own pace. River cruises give you the freedom to choose how much (or how little) you want to socialize, making it ideal for independent spirits. ( best of both worlds )
Many river cruises are surprisingly inclusive—covering meals, drinks, excursions, and even gratuities. This makes budgeting simple and eliminates the need for constant decision-making about where to eat or what to do next.

✈ Ready to embark on your own solo river adventure? Let’s find the perfect itinerary, ship, and destination to match your travel style—so you can pack your bags, set sail, and start making memories.

I recently came back from a whirlwind week long visit to Iceland! I successfully trekked my way through the country with JUST a carry on suitcase and my backpack. I'm here to tell you it was WORTH it.
Normally I don't stress about carry- on vs. checked bags but this trip was tedious with regards to airfare. I had to switch airlines half way thru my journey and needed to avoid the baggage claim! So here we are at my carry - on only dilemma.
I knew the weather would be cold, wet and windy. So I obviously needed lots of layers, without packing TOO much bulk . Of course I always use my packing cubes which help with the bulk too. Below you will find my list of clothing packed that lasted me for 6 full days in Southern Iceland. IF I can do it, you can too!

I recently flew Icelandair ( economy ) for the first and probably last time!
Founded in 1937 first operating domestic routes. Later merged with another airline to form Flugfélag Íslands, which eventually became Icelandair. They have multiple direct options from the US to their hub city Keflavík (KEF) in Iceland.
Unfortunately, flying from Texas, none of these departure points were favorable for me. They certainly have a hold on the market and competitors have had little success offering similar routes. So Chicago to Iceland was the route I opted for. This flight was about 6 hours and I upgraded to the 'extra leg room' I will note the extra leg room was nice. But I also ended up with a row to myself, so it was relatively unnecessary.
Prior to departure I didn't research much about the airline as I didn't necessarily have an alternative, in hindsight I wished I would have!!! WiFi was at a cost, there were NO snacks offered, food was required to be pre-ordered ( days prior ) and would also come at an additional cost ( all in Euros ) . Beverage service occurred twice and alcoholic BOGO offers were pushed and water was hard to come by. While I did take advantage of the wine BOGO offer, I was also under the assumption I would be eating in the near future.
They do have seat back entertainment available, but limited US options and even worse .... no electricity outlets, USB only. I did my best to sleep away my hunger on this flight. Overall it wasn't an awful arrival experience but the return flight home would prove to be much different.
Returning to the US, we had a full flight with limited to no air conditioning ( which you'd assume would prompt them to serve more beverages to keep folks happy - FALSE ) We were hot, thirsty and cranky for 6.5 hours... the Wifi was broken and all electric outlets were 'being upgraded and out of service.'
This is certainly a no frills airline, which I can understand... but not when charging prices like they're a top 5 Airline.
I'd love to say this was a great flight experience and that it was worth it for the price, but that would all be a lie. But don't let it discourage you from visiting Iceland!

In full disclosure, I was UNSURE that this trip to Universal Studios Hollywood was going to be 'worth it' but I wanted to do it for research purposes for clients/ friends and of course for the content on social media. I am not a big Universal fan ( the Orlando version ) so I was already discouraged to be visiting an even smaller less - accessible version. BUT , there was one big BUT. That was and is Super Nintendo World - a super immersive video gamers paradise. Now, while I am no video gamer, I do have fond memories of playing Super Mario back in my day.
So, to the point: was this day worth the hassle of LA traffic , the money and time? Let's dive in!
For many travelers, Universal Studios Hollywood is a place of nostalgia. It's a chance to relive moments from their favorite movies and shows. Universal Studios has done an exceptional job at creating immersive lands based on popular movie franchises, such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Simpsons, and Jurassic Park. These areas allow visitors to step into the worlds they love and relive those moments. This was also true for the Super Nintendo World portion of the park. No stone was left unturned when it came to the inventiveness of creating this land. The sounds, the sights and even the games were begging visitors to come down the tube and LEVEL UP with Mario and his crew.
We did buy the early access which was totally worth the extra cost. Once inside, we prioritized purchasing the interactive game bands ( $45 ) and set off to start collecting the keys around the park ( this is where it is crucial to use the Universal App. ) We began by making our way to each 'game' which are just like the challenges you may face when playing the game on your Nintendo. This was next level awesome for us, we loved the interactive element, but unfortunately, the lines were tedious... you have to wait in line for these interactions/ games, but if you don't succeed, back in line you go! This was a bit frustrating for many guests, but ultimately it was beneficial to have multiple people in your party so you can rely on them for help. Using your band ( which is linked to your account/ stats on the app ) tracks your success throughout the world and then allows you to enter Bowser Jr's Castle (TA DA ) where there is a secret experience waiting for you and your party. You do have to 'tap' your band to enter this attraction; which then verifies you have indeed completed all of the levels required. This was certainly the best part of our time in Nintendo World.
Now you may be asking, wait, there's a whole MARIO KART attraction, what about that ?!?! We, of course, rode that immediately but both of us were quite overwhelmed by the virtual / actual ride aspects combining. You definitely feel like you're missing elements while 'playing.' Nonetheless this attraction still had incredible thematics; right down to your headset ( Mario's hat.) But it doesn't quite measure up to the 'wow-factor' that Bowser Jr has!
We had an early lunch at the Toadstool Cafe, right in Super Nintendo World. Using the restaurants virtual queue system ( third party and sort of tedious ) we secured a 'call back' time right away that morning. This is done using a QR code that is posted in the park ( or if you're resourceful - found online ) we showed up at our alotted time and waited to enter. This is a counter service dining option. With again, intense creativity poured into every detail. The food was not your typical theme- park food. Lending us to want to order much of the menu. Overall the restaurant experience was mediocre; the service was slow and a bit underwhelming for the price point. But the inventiveness of the entrees was certainly the main event, lending itself to be worth the wait.
After we had done all we wanted to do and see in Super Nintendo World, we headed on to hit the main points of the rest of Universal Studios. This is where my disappointment set in. The park felt quite disjointed, granted it is built into the side of a mountain, but nonetheless did not feel cohesive to me. We made it to the Wizzarding World, which was a much smaller version of itself. Still greatly imagined but missing the mark for me.
We then prioritized trying some of the newer attractions in the park, which took us to Super Silly Fun Land ( Minions ) and The Secret Life of Pets experience. Both were cute and truly a great solution to the need for more current experiences. Did I feel that they made my trip to the rest of Universal worth the time/ effort ? No, absolutely not, but am I glad I went and saw the things and drank the overpriced Duff beer? Yes, yes I am!
So my dear traveler, to answer the question, no I don't think carving out an extra day on a California vacation and heading to Universal Studios Hollywood, is worth the hassle. Do I think Super Nintendo World was worth my time and money ? YES ... But, I also firmly believe if there is a version in Orlando, it will be bigger and better ( so maybe wait for that? )
Thinking of planning a California vacation ? Let's chat, it doesn't have to be all theme parks and rides!

Recently I have found myself inquiring more and more about small group cruises. Something more intimate; with the feels of a big cruise line. But with those all so enticingly unique itineraries. Here is where I was lead to expedition cruising.
What are expedition cruises? Well, they are a type of cruise that focuses on exploration and adventure in remote and often less accessible areas of the world. Unlike traditional cruises that mainly focus on entertainment, relaxation, and visiting popular tourist destinations, expedition cruises are designed to provide travelers with unique and immersive experiences in nature-rich and culturally significant regions.
The main highlight of an expedition cruise is the opportunity to explore and discover pristine natural environments and wildlife habitats. Explorers can engage in activities such as guided shore excursions, wildlife spotting, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and even camping in designated areas. Expert guides, naturalists, and scientists are usually present on board to provide educational lectures, lead excursions, and share their knowledge about the environment, wildlife, and local cultures.
Expedition cruises offer a more intimate and immersive experience, allowing passengers to have closer encounters with nature and wildlife. This type of cruise is ideal for travelers who have a sense of adventure, a curiosity for remote destinations, and an interest in learning about different ecosystems and cultures.
Now that I have peaked your interest into expedition cruising, here are the top 5 destinations you may want to consider when choosing your maiden voyage!

Hi Disney Travelers, today I'm here breaking down the most important things to know and plan for when planning your Disney vacation. Keep in mind, using a Disney Destinations travel planner, such as myself, eliminates the need to stress about MUCH of this content ;)
Planning a Disney vacation can be a lot of fun ( for weirdos like me) but it can also be an extremely large and confusing task. That's why I'm here to help with some of the most important aspects to consider when planning your Disney vacation:
Recently I have experienced a growing trend in my romance travel planning with couples opting to elo...
Recently I have experienced a growing trend in my romance travel planning with couples opting to elope in a dreamy destination ceremony. There's a multitude of reasons why a couple may opt for this; avoiding family drama or their family may be quite spread out geographically.
Cost savings is certainly a popular reason as well, weddings can be expensive, and some couples opt to elope to save money on the matrimonial expenses.
Desire for privacy or a more intimate setting is a common factor as well. Some couples feel that their wedding is a very private and personal event, and they prefer to keep it between themselves. Spontaneity being another reason couples may opt for elopement; occasionally couples simply decide on a whim to get married and choose to elope instead of going through the more traditional wedding planning process. ( I see you, VEGAS ! )
But for some, there is just the preference for simplicity, for many couples, a big wedding with all the bells and whistles may not be their style. Preferring a simple, intimate ceremony, and eloping allows them to have just that! The most popular destinations for these small destination elopements are often beach backdrops, such as Hawaii , Mexico and the Caribbean. Second to that being the mountainous back drops for nature lovers; such as Banff/ Lake Louise, Colorado and even as far as the Swiss Alps!
Are you considering a #destinationwedding, or #destinationelopement ? I'd love to help plan this special day for you!

River Cruising has been around for ages, it's something I , foolishly assumed, only 'older' people did. I had this vision in my mind it was slow, quiet and boring. That the cruisers sat around listening to people talk about historical architecture and drinking tea. .... in short, I was wrong. Well, mostly wrong - there is historical discussions as you're cruising but it's interesting and can be easily tuned out if that's not your thing.
This November I went on my first river cruise with Amadeus. It was a 4 night cruise on the Rhine River during the ' Magic of Advent' , it was a bucket list experience for my Mom and me to experience the Christmas Markets so we did it! I was pleasantly surprised as soon as we boarded this gorgeous vessel. It was small and intimate, ported right in the center of Cologne ( super convenient ) the staff was courteous and welcoming. By the second day they knew you by name! The cabins were modern and spacious - with gorgeous panoramic views. I was not expecting to enjoy a small ship - but it quickly grew on me!
Each morning and sometimes twice in one day we were in a different city! The ease and speed of traveling on the rivers makes these cruises so efficient for crossing off multiple destinations on your list!
We chose to book some guided tours through Amadeus to introduce us to each port city. Each tour left us with a couple of hours for free time to explore. Another unexpected perk to river cruising is that these ports are not bombarded by tons of cruise passengers because occupancies are limited on these vessels it makes your in-destination experience much more authentic feeling. Our tour guides were all locals and were true wealths of knowledge. I could tell Amadeus cared about the experiences their cruisers were having on shore just as much as their experiences on board.
As I mentioned I didn't think I was ready for river cruising, I mean I'm 30 and love the nightlife. BUT I was extremely impressed with my experience and already have another booked for this Spring! If you are like me and think it's not 'your time' for river cruising, think again. River cruises are often fast paced, you're somewhere new everyday, you don't have to un-pack or worry about multiple forms of transportation - you have a luxury hotel on a gorgeous river, showing you many of the world's most beautiful places, what's not to love?
If my experience interests you in river cruising, please reach out - I'd love to share more details and offer you a tailored quote for your river cruise experience!

JAMBO!
I just returned from a truly breathtaking 8 day trip to Kenya, my husband and I felt that we were fairly prepared for our journey. I read lots of blogs/ packing lists and watched the weather obsessively. But nothing can truly prepare you for a trip like our Best of Kenya Safari with Liberty Africa Safaris.
We had a general idea that we would be bouncing around the country and be outdoors most of our days. So we packed accordingly, boots, tennis shoes, neutral colors, light jackets, sunglasses and LOTS OF bug spray were the highlights of what we packed.
What we failed to realize or look into is HOW far we would be traveling throughout Kenya. We were in multiple climate zones within hours somedays. (all without air conditioning) this was a bit of an issue. I neglected to pack hats ( thankfully they were gifted to us by our Safari guides) I also forgot to bring sunscreen - I knew our days had the potential to be overcast and rainy. I did not anticipate seeing the sun much at all. And in fact it was rare BUT our malaria medicine made us VERY susceptible to the sun's rays = sunburn. I also forgot a rain jacket for myself ( we had one very rainy day ) where we still went on our game drive ( outdoors)
Preparing for a Safari sounds hard; in all honesty it was much easier than I led myself to believe. I wish I would have packed more shorts and less pants, but again the weather report and climate zones misled me. So in short, here is a recap of things I'd suggest packing for your week long safari in Kenya:
( keep in mind your safari company will probably want you to bring soft sided luggage as it is easier to squish into your 4x4 vehicles )
What to pack:

Inquiring minds want to know... Why are travel advisors always traveling?
Well folks I am here to solve the mystery. While it may seem to be a selfish act at first glance, we really travel to better ourselves and the services we provide our clients.
As a travel advisor we value our experiences outside the office just like a lawyer may value and even require continuing education classes for their profession. Continuously visiting destinations we sell and hotels/resorts we send clients to, is the equivalent to continuing education for a travel advisor. We partner with these resorts/ hotels and even tourism boards to build trusting relationships that we can rely on when we suggest them to our clients.
Travel advisors are doing the ground work for our clients each time we set foot in destination. We go and experience/ test out the drinks, beds, service and even pool temperatures so you can trust our suggestions and take pride in knowing you are booking your trip with a professional. We understand that this trip may be a financial investment for you or even a bucket list adventure. We want you to know that we take that seriously and we have the research to back it up.
In conclusion, yes travel advisors do travel often. Why do we do it?
We go so you know;

What I loved about my adults only stay in Punta Cana : gorgeous beaches, turquoise waters, tasty cocktails, perfect weather, beautiful pools and lively nightlife.
I recently stayed at Secrets Royal Beach in beautiful Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Located just a short ride from the airport with the most beautiful water and soft white sand beaches. Secrets Royal Beach has great evening entertainment and tons of dining options. This property is actually connected to a neighboring property, which is family friendly, the bonus of this set up being, you have access to double the pools and double the restaurant options!
Secrets Royal Beach is perfect for couples, friend groups and solo travelers! Ready to visit? Email me for a custom quote or more details: alena@vincentvacations.com

Well I will be honest, I love everything about Christmas the decor, the movies , the music. It's all magical and I love the madness that surrounds the season. BUT I don't love the increasing need for presents, shopping and so on. My husband and I agreed years ago to limit gifts to mostly travel/ trips or things related to upcoming adventures we are planning for. With the idea that we want to collect new memories and experiences in turn, collecting less STUFF! While yes, this is harder with kids it is still a novel idea that I encourage all to embrace, life is moves by awfully fast and you can't take all that stuff with you.
This brings me to the title of this blog, Christmas in July, its a popular term that I fully WELCOME! But for me, a travel agent, this is a very popular time for families to get a jump start on their holiday travel plans. Because the unfortunate truth is, prices are going to continue to rise as we enter the holiday season, moms + dads are going to get overwhelmed with back to school plans and sports camps. Therefore planning for Holiday Travel almost HAS TO start now, for your budgeting purposes and for your sanity.
Travel is often best booked between 6-10 months out from your ideal travel dates. So here it is folks; your reminder for planning that Christmas cruise or that magical Disney trip needs to begin NOW! Christmas in July isn't just for Hallmark movies ;)
