The Beak & Barrel officially opened it's doors to the public August 29th, 2025. This new experience is a pirates themed tavern located at Disney's Magic Kingdom in Adventureland, right next to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.  Given the theming, it continues the lore of Pirates of the Caribbean: storytelling, immersive décor, cast members in character, atmospheric rooms (the Captain’s Quarters, the Mapmaker’s Room, the Mess) etc.

Whether you're a fan of cocktails or prefer non-alcoholic options, there are several interesting choices. Some fruity, some more complex. Definitely not just “theme park bar food/drink” in the bland sense. I tried both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options: Plunderer’s Punch was fun (especially with the souvenir skull mug, though pricey), and the non-alcoholic one Treasure Trove is creative and indulgent. I will say some of the alcoholic drinks can be stronger than others. The small plates are tasty and thematic. They’re not full meals, but perfect paired with drinks.

My Verdict: Is It Worth Visiting?

Short answer: Yes it is, especially if you work it into your plan smartly.

Here’s how I size it up:

• The Beak & Barrel delivers strongly on theming, novelty, and immersive experience. For many guests, those are exactly the kinds of memories that stand out.


• It’s not a “must for everyone,” but for a decent segment of Disney visitors — especially repeat visitors or those seeking unique dining/entertainment — this is definitely worth doing.


• If you’re staying at Disney property and have flexible schedules, you can likely make this stop without sacrificing too much of your park time. It can serve as a luxury interlude in an otherwise packed day.

1.  Book early:  Set reminders for when your dining window open (60 days). For Disney resort guests, try first thing in the morning, or even before opening time.


2. Know what you want ahead of time: Because of the time limit, have a rough idea of which drinks/small bites you want. Don’t spend the whole time deciding.


3. Go with smaller party sizes if possible: With large parties, reservations are harder; splitting up or staggering can help.


4. Plan in your schedule buffer: Account for travel time inside the park, walking, waiting, etc. Don’t squeeze this in tight with something else you must do immediately after, because you might run late.


5. Budget accordingly: Expect the drinks and themed items to cost more, especially with souvenir options. Factor that into your daily spend.


6. Don’t forget children/non-drinkers: The non-alcoholic drinks are good, and the atmosphere is family-friendly, so even if only part of your group drinks, the stop can still work well.

I recently sailed on the Carnival Sunrise out of Miami, Florida and was pleasantly surprised! There is quite a bit of controversy concerning this ship in particular so I was unsure what to expect. If you are unfamiliar with this ship, it was previously known as the Carnival Triumph but after a refurbishment and rename back in 2019 it now known as the Sunrise which is a part of the Sunshine class.

During our embarkation, the process was very smooth and quick. The only con we faced was the traffic getting into the port itself so I would make sure to account for the extra time! Like most ships, a lot of the common areas including the buffet can be a bit crowded until the staterooms are ready so I like to use this time to explore areas such as the fitness center, the spa, kid's clubs, and lounges. We had an ocean view stateroom on deck one which I surprisingly enjoyed due to  having quick access to the gangway on our port days. The stateroom was also midship so we were able to get to the common areas such as the lounges and buffet fairly quick via the stairs or elevator.

Some of the ship's amenities included Sports Square which has a ropes course, foosball, pool tables, shuffle board, basketball, and corn hole. There is also two pools and various hot tubs across the ship as well as water slides. Like many Carnival ships you can also find the adult's only area, Serenity, and kid's clubs. The main theater on this ship is called The Liquid Lounge and here you can enjoy shows from the Playlist Productions and participate in BINGO.

Our stops for this sailing included Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau- all of which were beautiful and had amazing weather even in the winter month of January. Both Grand Turk and Nassau you are able to simply walk off the ship but as for Half Moon Cay, a tender boat is needed to get onto the island. Half Moon Cay is a private island owned by Carnival therefore is does not become too crowded. Lunch is included on this and usually lasts a couple of hours which is barbeque style with hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, and more!

Embarking on the Carnival Sunrise came with laughs, relaxation, and memories to last a lifetime. From the waitstaff at dinner remembering your name and drink order from the night before,  to your room attendant leaving a unique towel creation on your bed, the amazing crystal clear water on the beach of Turks and Caicos, and of course watching the Love and Marriage show- there are so many experiences to be had. You cannot go wrong with booking a sailing on this ship.

• Boo-To-You Parade: This parade is a highlight of the event, featuring beloved Disney characters in Halloween costumes, floats themed to various spooky settings, and the iconic Headless Horseman leading the way. In 2024, expect new additions and updates to keep the parade fresh and exciting.


• Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular: Hosted by the Sanderson Sisters from the cult classic 'Hocus Pocus,' this stage show on the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage is a spellbinding mix of music, special effects, and appearances by Disney villains.


• Trick-Or-Treating: Scattered throughout the park are trick-or-treat stations where both children and adults can collect an impressive haul of candy. The 2024 season promises an even greater variety of treats. Have allergies? Disney does a good job making sure guests can still participate in the fun while offering some other opportunities to get treats.


• Exclusive Character Meet-and-Greets: MNSSHP offers rare opportunities to meet characters that aren’t usually seen in the parks. In 2024, guests can expect appearances from classic characters new Halloween attire and some new faces joining the festivities.

Many cruise ships offer all of the bells and whistles but when embarking on your first cruise, it can be overwhelming. Let me introduce you to one of the ships in Carnival's fleet, the Carnival Paradise, a ship that offers unforgettable journey filled with excitement, relaxation, and endless possibilities. Let's dive into what Carnival Paradise entails and if it would be a good fit for you and your family.

Accommodations:

Carnival Paradise is a Fantasy-class cruise ship that first set sail in 1998. Over the years, it has undergone refurbishments to ensure it meets the evolving expectations of modern cruisers. With a capacity for over 2,000 passengers, this ship offers a perfect balance of intimate spaces and lively communal areas. This ship has various staterooms to accommodate different preferences as well as different budgets. Whether it is a cozy interior cabin to a spacious suite with a private balcony, you will be sure to find a stateroom to best fit you and your needs.  During my sailing, we stood in an ocean view stateroom that had 2 port holes. The room itself had plenty of space and storage for the two of us. The room can be viewed on the smaller side for a larger family or party but we found it to be perfect especially given we spent most of our time exploring the ship or our port of call. Since it was our first cruise, we did not mind having the two port holes to look out of as we were unsure of how well we would do with the views of the water. If you are more comfortable with the idea of your first cruise, I recommend getting a stateroom with a larger window or a balcony to take advantage of the views.

Cruising Delights:

This ship offers many dining options whether it is formal dining rooms,  to the casual buffet, Guy's Burger Joint, or even some Latin flavors at BlueIguana Cantina. Room service is also available for fee to ensure no matter what time of day it is, you will be able to indulge. Whether you or someone in your party are picky eaters or an adventurous foodie, you will be sure to find something you enjoy. Of course many frequent cruisers will be able to relate when I say some of the best ice cream you will ever devour will be on your ship as you float in the middle of the ocean.

On-Board Activities: 

Carnival is known for it's lively entertainment and Carnival Paradise is not an exception. During our sailing, there were plenty of activities such as trivia games, Punchline comedy shows, and of course games of bingo and Deal or No Deal. Even during breaks in between shows there were plenty of opportunities to explore spaces such as the pool, hot tubs, waterslides, spa, fitness center, casino, and the kid's clubs. A few nights of our sailing there were also themed events such as a white out party followed by silent disco, an 80's night, and captains dinner where many of the guests dressed accordingly and enjoyed various activities or listened to the themed music.

Although I enjoyed all of the amenities this ship had to offer as well as my ports of call,  I believe what really made my time even more enjoyable was the service I received. Between our wait staff in the dining room to our room attendant, everyone managed to remember us by name and made sure we had everything we needed our entire stay.  If you're looking to book your first cruise and are overwhelmed with all of the options, I think Carnival Paradise is a great option. Whether you’re a Toy Story fanatic, a Star Wars connoisseur, or just love good entertainment and attractions; Hollywood Studios has something for everyone. This park happens to be one of my personal favorites. It is home to some of Disney’s most popular rides and unique shows which definitely makes it one of the busiest parks. It can be quite difficult to get everything done in one day, but with these tips you will be sure to have an unforgettable visit. 

 

Arriving in Style

All parks have access to the Disney bus system but Hollywood Studios has access to a few other ways of transportation that will be sure to make you feel like a movie star. This park is one of two that has access to the Disney Skyliner which makes it easier to get to and from various resorts as well as park hop to Epcot. Along with the Skyliner, Hollywood Studios is also one of two parks where guests could arrive via a Friendship Boat. I highly recommend making use of these forms of transportation as they offer a fun alternative to get your Hollywood day started. 

 

Rope Drop

Rope dropping is when you arrive at the park right at opening. It is often recommended to rope drop for all four parks especially if you only have one day to spend at each of them. I would HIGHLY recommend rope dropping Hollywood Studios given the popularity of the park and its attractions. This will help ensure you are getting to experience as many rides, shows, and character meet and greets as possible. If you are staying at a Disney resort, you will be able to enter the park 30 minutes earlier than other guests. To make sure you are getting the most out of your day, head straight for some of the most high traffic rides. This includes Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Hollywood Tower of Terror, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad.

 

Genie+

It can be quite difficult to get all the attractions done in one visit to Hollywood Studios without rope dropping and/or adding Genie+ to your day. Whether you would like to ensure you get as much done as possible or if you would like to skip rope dropping, I would HIGHLY recommend adding Genie+ to your overall trip budget. The best way to use Genie+ is to make sure you’re able to get the most popular rides done early. This includes purchasing an individual lightning lane for Rise of the Resistance. As for Slinky Dog Dash, it is one of the most difficult rides across all of the Disney World parks to secure a lightning lane. The best plan of attack is to load into your My Disney Experience app at 6:55am and be ready to book right your LL at 7:00am. Be sure to refresh your page as it does not always load automatically.
