๐ด Just Back from One Happy Island โ Aruba Travel Tips & Must-Knows!
I just returned from an unforgettable trip to The One Happy Island โ Aruba! This Dutch-influenced Caribbean paradise is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and some of the friendliest locals I've ever met.
Whether you're dreaming of a relaxing beach escape or an adventure-filled getaway, Aruba has something for everyone. Below are some helpful tips to make your trip planning easier โ and remember, my travel planning services are completely free! Iโd absolutely LOVE the chance to help you plan your perfect Aruba vacation. ๐
๐งณ Top 12 Tips for Visiting Aruba
1. Choose the Right Accommodations for You Getting around the island is a breeze, whether you rent a car or hop in a taxi. Options range from Airbnbs and all-inclusive resorts to European Plan (EP) hotels.๐ I personally chose an EP resort because we wanted the flexibility to explore and enjoy local restaurants โ which did not disappoint!
2. Complete Your Aruba ED Card-This is mandatory for entry and must be filled out within 7 days before travel. The fee is just $20 per person โ if you're paying more, you're likely on a third-party site. โ
Book directly through the official Aruba ED Card website: https://edcardaruba.aw/welcome'>https://edcardaruba.aw/welcome
3. Tap Water = Amazing No need to stock up on bottled water โ Aruba has some of the cleanest, best-tasting tap water in the world. I was literally drinking from the bathroom sink and it tasted better than bottled Dasani!๐ง Bring a refillable water bottle and drink up.
4. Bring Cash for Taxis & Tips While credit cards are widely accepted, taxis only take cash, so plan accordingly. We used credit cards for restaurants and shopping, and kept cash for transportation and tipping.
5. Prepare for Windy Weather Aruba is famously breezy โ it keeps the heat bearable but can wreak havoc on your hair! ๐จ Ladies, pack ponytail holders, clips, or hats.
6. Don't Skip the Sunscreen Aruba is close to the equator, and the sun is intense.โ๏ธ Be sure to layer on plenty of reef-safe sunscreen throughout the day.
7. Bring a Floatie for the Ocean Beaches like Palm Beach are calm and perfect for floating and relaxing. ๐๏ธ A floatie adds an extra layer of vacation bliss.
8. Try the Aruba Ariba You must try Arubaโs signature cocktail โ the Aruba Ariba! Itโs a tropical mix of vodka, rum, Coecoei (a local liquor), banana liqueur, and fruit juices.๐น Delicious and totally vacation-worthy.
9. Explore Beyond the Resort Donโt just stay in Palm Beach โ get out and explore nearby towns! We felt very safe walking and driving around. ๐บ๏ธ Locals are incredibly kind and helpful โ but always use common sense and caution, just like you would anywhere else.
10. Rent a Car Driving in Aruba is easy! They drive on the right-hand side (like in the U.S.). ๐ Heads-up: Aruba uses roundabouts instead of stop signs โ thatโs the only tricky part.๐ฑ Download the Maps.me app for offline navigation if you're heading off the beaten path.๐ Donโt forget your driverโs license, and make sure your credit card name matches your ID when renting
11. Skip the All-Inclusive and Eat Local -The food scene in Aruba is incredible โ fresh seafood, Caribbean flavors, Dutch influences, and more.๐ฝ๏ธ Weโre so glad we chose to dine out and experience the islandโs amazing cuisine.
12. Shop Local: Aloe Products Aruba's most famous export is aloe vera, grown and produced locally.๐ฟ We picked up aloe soaps, lotions, hand sanitizer, and chap stick as souvenirs โ a meaningful (and useful!) way to remember the trip.
๐ Bonus: Book an Excursion (or Two!) : Thereโs no shortage of adventure in Aruba. Some of the top excursions include:
๐ Snorkeling or scuba diving
๐ Horseback riding along the beach
๐ ATV tours to Conchi Natural Pool and Arikok National Park
Whether youโre after relaxation or adrenaline, Aruba delivers.
